Everton sacked manager Ronald Koeman last Monday – and the search is on for a replacement.
Everton confirmed last Monday that manager Ronald Koeman has been relieved of his duties after a dreadful start to the season.
The Toffees went into the season full of hope and optimism, having splashed the cash over the summer on players such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen, whilst they also brought Wayne Rooney back to the club.
However, with five defeats in the first nine Premier League games, and just one point taken from three Europa League outings, Everton endured a disastrous start to the campaign – and Koeman paid with his job.
The Toffees went to Leicester City on Sunday afternoon, and caretaker boss David Unsworth saw his side lose 2-0 to make it six defeats in ten league outings, whilst damaging Unsworth’s chances of landing the job.
Bookmakers have been pricing up odds for Everton’s next manager ever since Koeman’s exit, and here are some of the main names in the frame this evening, as provided by Sky Bet.
Sean Dyche: 8/13
Burnley boss Dyche oversaw a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Monday night, securing just a second home win for the Clarets this season. The 46-year-old has excelled as Burnley manager since his appointment in 2012, winning 40% of his games whilst winning two promotions to the Premier League, and his work at Turf Moor appears to have attracted interest. Sky Sports report that Everton are planning an approach for Dyche this week, and bookmakers have responded by making him the 8/13 odds-on favourite tonight.
Sam Allardyce: 11/4
‘Big Sam’ has been out of work since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season, and whilst many thought that he was calling time on his managerial career, Allardyce may be ready for a return. The 63-year-old has proven himself for years in terms of getting teams out of trouble, and whilst he wouldn’t be a fashionable appointment, he could take Everton away from the relegation zone. The favourite on Monday, Allardyce is now 11/4 for the job, making him the second favourite.
David Unsworth: 8/1
Currently the Everton caretaker manager, ex-Toffees defender Unsworth has been working as Everton’s developmental coach in recent years, helping develop some of the club’s top young players. Unsworth has overseen two defeats since taking the reins, and his odds have slipped since Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Leicester. Now 8/1 for the job having been favourite on Sunday, Unsworth’s chances of becoming Everton boss on a permanent basis appear to be dwindling.
Thomas Tuchel: 16/1
Whilst German Tuchel is the choice for many Everton fans, he is still something of an outsider for the job at 16/1. Tuchel, who left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, had impressed at Signal Iduna Park since replacing Jurgen Klopp in 2015, but as he’s now available, he has been touted as an exciting candidate for Everton – but right now, a move to Goodison Park appears unlikely.
Carlo Ancelotti: 20/1
Another big name manager who would be preferred by fans, Ancelotti is available having been sacked by Bayern Munich earlier this season. The Italian already has one Premier League title win to his name with Chelsea, and he has even won three Champions League titles in a glittering managerial career. A move to Everton always seemed unlikely, and at 20/1 tonight, bookmakers seem to agree.
