Everton sacked manager Ronald Koeman last Monday – and the search is on for a replacement.
Everton confirmed last Monday that manager Ronald Koeman has been relieved of his duties after a dreadful start to the season.
The Toffees went into the season full of hope and optimism, having splashed the cash over the summer on players such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen, whilst they also brought Wayne Rooney back to the club.
However, with five defeats in the first nine Premier League games, and just one point taken from three Europa League outings, Everton endured a disastrous start to the campaign – and Koeman paid with his job.
The Toffees went to Leicester City on Sunday afternoon, and caretaker boss David Unsworth saw his side lose 2-0 to make it six defeats in ten league outings, whilst damaging Unsworth’s chances of landing the job.
Bookmakers have been pricing up odds for Everton’s next manager ever since Koeman’s exit, and here are some of the main names in the frame this evening, as provided by Sky Bet.
Sam Allardyce: 6/4
Out of work since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season, Allardyce could be called upon to get Everton out of trouble, as has been the case with most of his jobs over the years. The former England boss has been cut all the way to the 6/4 favourite for the Everton job, with ‘Big Sam’ now the frontrunner for the Goodison Park hot seat, in a move which may not impress fans.
Chris Coleman: 4/1
Wales boss Coleman could leave his post after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and he may well fancy another crack at Premier League management. Formerly with Fulham, Coleman’s stock as a manager hasn’t been higher, having not only taken Wales to the European Championships in 2016, but also guided his country to the semi-finals – and with questions over his future, he is now just 4/1 for the Everton job in what would be a surprise move.
David Unsworth: 6/1
Caretaker boss Unsworth has stepped in to replace Koeman on a temporary basis, but has lost 2-0 to Chelsea and 2-1 to Leicester so far. His side were criticised for their display on Sunday, and the defeat has left many wondering whether Unsworth is ready for such a big job. That has been reflected in his odds, as he has now slipped to 6/1, with the loss potentially denting his chances a long-term stay as Everton boss.
Thomas Tuchel: 7/1
The choice for many Everton fans, German boss Tuchel is out of work having left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season. Formerly of Mainz, Tuchel stepped in to replace Jurgen Klopp back in 2015, and won over 61% of his games before departing, and many Everton fans feel he would be an exciting appointment. At 7/1, Tuchel is still one of the frontrunners, but Everton may need to really push the boat out to land him.
David Moyes: 20/1
Touted for a shock return to Goodison Park last week, the chances of Everton reappointing Moyes are getting slimmer and slimmer by the day. The Scot, who spent 11 years as Everton boss before leaving for Manchester United in 2013, has endured dismal spells with United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland, meaning a return to Merseyside would be far from popular. Now out to 20/1, Everton fans may be able to breathe easy on the Moyes front.
