Everton sacked manager Ronald Koeman last Monday – and the search is on for a replacement.
Everton confirmed last Monday that manager Ronald Koeman has been relieved of his duties after a dreadful start to the season.
The Toffees went into the season full of hope and optimism, having splashed the cash over the summer on players such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen, whilst they also brought Wayne Rooney back to the club.
However, with five defeats in the first nine Premier League games, and just one point taken from three Europa League outings, Everton endured a disastrous start to the campaign – and Koeman paid with his job.
The Toffees went to Leicester City on Sunday afternoon, and caretaker boss David Unsworth saw his side lose 2-0 to make it six defeats in ten league outings, whilst damaging Unsworth’s chances of landing the job.
Bookmakers have been pricing up odds for Everton’s next manager ever since Koeman’s exit, and here are some of the main names in the frame this evening, as provided by Sky Bet.
Sean Dyche: 11/10
Still the favourite having overtaken Sam Allardyce on Tuesday, Burnley boss Dyche leads the way again tonight. The 46-year-old, who has won 40% of his games with Burnley, has turned the Clarets into an established Premier League side, and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Now 11/10 for the Everton job, Dyche is the clear frontrunner to replace Koeman.
Sam Allardyce: 6/5
Whilst he may be an unpopular choice given his brand of football, Allardyce has a proven track record of getting teams out of trouble – and Everton find themselves in the bottom three, where Allardyce is often targeted to avoid relegation. Out of work since saving Crystal Palace at the end of last season, Allardyce could now look to get back into management, and he is the 6/5 second favourite right now.
Nuno Espirito Santo: 8/1
Portuguese boss Nuno has emerged as a shock candidate for the job today, though it currently seems unlikely that he will be leaving Wolves. Appointed over the summer in a surprise move, Nuno has turned Wolves into promotion contenders, boosting the former Valencia and Porto manager’s stock. Now 8/1 for the Everton job, Nuno is a major candidate, but may take some convincing right now.
Alan Pardew: 14/1
If Allardyce would be unpopular, then Everton fans may just revolt at the prospect of appointing Pardew. Another former Palace manager, Pardew has been out of work since December 2016, and could look to get back into management. At 14/1, Pardew’s odds have suddenly been cut today, and Toffees fans may just start to get worried about the prospect of him arriving on Merseyside.
Marco Silva: 18/1
A popular name among Everton fans, Watford manager Silva is out to 18/1, with his odds drifting by the day. The Portuguese manager impressed with Hull City last season despite their relegation, and has already shown that Watford could target a top 10 finish under his stewardship. A move away from Vicarage Road so quickly seems unlikely, and bookmakers believe he is an outside shot now.
