West Ham United boss David Moyes’ name has been mentioned at Everton board room level as they seek a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti yesterday, the Athletic report.
Everton held an emergency board room meeting after the shock news that Ancelotti was leaving them to join Real Madrid occurred less than 24 hours ago.
Everton quickly drafted up a list of a huge number of potential managerial targets.
It has already been noticeable just how many possible managers have been linked to the Goodison Park job.
But the Athletic have offered some clarity over the links with Moyes, who has done an impressive job at West Ham over the past year.
They say that Everton’s board do consider him a potential target, but there is a realisation that getting him out of West Ham will be tough.
Moyes has a new contract on offer with West Ham, and it seems that the Scot may have to turn that down for there to be any chance of a move back to Merseyside.
Second time lucky?
Moyes obviously still fondly remembers Everton from his first stint at the club, where he enjoyed great success.
However, it seems unlikely that he would turn his back on what he has built at West Ham, after such a successful year.
If Moyes was to come back to Everton it is likely that the news would be treated with mixed emotions.
No recent Everton manager has enjoyed the same success as the Scot, but there would have to be questions over whether Moyes could achieve as much second time around.
