Liverpool tried to sign Everton’s new man twice before, according to the player himself.

New Everton signing Lucas Digne spoke to Everton TV after completing his switch from Barcelona, and claimed that Liverpool unsuccessfully tried to sign him twice before earlier on in his career.

The Blues paid £18 million to bring the 25-year-old left-back to Goodison Park on Tuesday, and having the former Barcelona ace amongst their ranks will undoubtedly strengthen them ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

With Leighton Baines on the wrong side of 33, Digne will bring some much needed youthful exuberance to Everton’s back-line, and £18 million seems like a real bargain for a player with the Frenchman’s quality.

Having played a bit-part role for the Catalan giants for the past two years, the 25-year-old will surely be desperate to prove that he is good enough to cut it at the very highest level.

Digne spoke exclusively to Everton TV after completing his switch to Goodison Park, and shared how he turned down the chance to join the Blues’ bitter rivals Liverpool twice before earlier on in his career:

“My tattoo is not about football. Maybe they [Liverpool] are jealous because they tried to sign me twice – when I was at Lille and then at PSV. But now I’m Blue.”

The new Premier League season kicks off next weekend, but the first Merseyside Derby doesn’t roll around until December 1st, and Digne’s comments will be sure to add even more fuel to the fire.
