Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin has made a huge difference to the Everton side since joining the club in January.
Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin celebrates scoring
Toffees new-boy Morgan Schneiderlin spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s impressive 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, and opened up on what was behind his selection of the number two jersey when he made the move to Goodison Park from Manchester United in January, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The 27-year-old has slotted into the Everton midfield seamlessly, with his high energy levels and tenacious playing style offering Ronald Koeman something completely different to what he already had available to him.
The France international has made eight appearances for the Blues, following his £20 million move to the club, and opened his goalscoring account for the Merseyside outfit at the weekend.
But it was his choice of the number two shirt – something unusual for a midfielder, which has led to bemusement amongst the Toffees fanbase.
And Schneiderlin explained the reasoning behind his number selection, when speaking to the media, as quoted by EvertonFC.com:

“When I arrived, not a lot of numbers were available,” he said. “Obviously I have some favourite numbers but they were already taken. There was the number two, 34 or 36. I decided to pick a small number. I’ve taken the number two for the moment although I know a lot of people don’t see a midfielder as a number two. It’s a number that has been lucky because we have had some good results but we will see at the end of the season if I keep or change it. But for now, I’m quite happy with it!”
Koeman’s side currently sit in seventh spot in the Premier League table, just eight points adrift of bitter rivals Liverpool in fourth place, with 10 games still remaining.
And if they continue to play like they have been doing of late, they have every chance of making a late push for the final Champions League spot.
