Everton manager Sam Allardyce worked with Lamine Kone at Sunderland earlier in their respective careers.

Kone was in brilliant form for Sunderland when Sam Allardyce was in charge at the Stadium of Light, but the Ivorian has badly underperformed since.
Kone’s attitude has come into question over the last 18 months at Sunderland, and the Black Cats are now said to be willing to cash in.

Allardyce is said to be keen for a reunion at Goodison Park, but he should have his sights set higher.
Kone is badly out of form, and if Everton have ambitions to break into the top four they need better.
If Kone is on top of his game, he possesses an enviable skill-set, but he has not shown any signs of promise over the last season and a half.

Everton now have a budget to enable them to sign a higher calibre of player than Kone.
And Allardyce should show far more ambition than going after the 28-year-old, as Everton could do better.
