Everton wanted to sign Nathan Redmond this summer but the Southampton winger is now on the verge of a move to Turkey.
Attacking additions were absolutely paramount for Everton over the summer and some may feel that more are still needed.
Dwight McNeil arrived from relegated Burnley before Everton raided Brighton and Hove Albion for Neal Maupay.
Whether they can really chip in with the goals needed after selling Richarlison remains to be seen, and another attacker who knows the Premier League was on Kevin Thelwell’s wish list.
Everton wanted to sign Nathan Redmond
The Athletic report that Everton expressed an interest in signing Southampton winger Nathan Redmond.
Bournemouth and Wolves were also in the race to sign Redmond, but the transfer window shut on Thursday without any of them signing him.
Redmond may still be on the move though with Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray all making offers to sign Redmond.
The Turkish transfer deadline isn’t until Thursday, so there is still time for Redmond to make the move away – even if it isn’t to Everton.
Redmond, 28, has been hailed as ‘absolute quality’ by Danny Ings, who also hailed Redmond’s ‘unbelievable’ work off the ball.
Redmond knows the Premier League well but it’s hard to feel like Everton have really missed out on something special here.
The former Norwich City wide man has played just one minute in the Premier League this season and has been down the pecking order at Southampton.
Redmond managed just one goal and five assists in 27 Premier League games last season, and the season before wasn’t much better with two goals and three assists.
Those numbers don’t exactly paint the picture of a player who could have made an instant impact at Everton, and the Toffees shouldn’t be losing too much sleep about Redmond going elsewhere now.
