Everton have to use Manchester United’s interest in Jarrad Branthwaite to sign one Old Trafford defender who has been lauded for his one on one ability.

Sean Dyche’s Everton are in for an important summer transfer window with the club treading dangerously close with the Premier League’s profit & sustainability rules (PSR) but they have still made summer moves already.

Jack Harrison and Tim Iroegbunam have already been confirmed as signings at Goodison Park and HITC have reported that the club are keen on two Manchester United defenders.

Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are understood to be of interested to those at Goodison Park and for Wan-Bissaka, he could solve Everton’s problem position.

Wan Bissaka could be the best bit of business done by the Toffees this summer

It is becoming clear that Wan-Bissaka’s time at Old Trafford is potentially coming to an end with Diogo Dalot being the preferred option for Erik ten Hag.

Dalot has been superb for the Red Devils and the former Crystal Palace defender can surely accept that the Portuguese defender deserves his starting berth.

But for Wan Bissaka, he has a big decision to make and the Toffees will be hoping that they can convince the 25-year-old that Merseyside is the best place for his development.

Back in 2020, during Wan-Bissaka’s debut season at Old Trafford, he put in a man of the match performance against Manchester City, which led to some high praise from Jamie Carragher.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher said on Wan Bissaka: “Sterling is one of the best three or four wide players in the world but Wan-Bissaka’s saying: ‘Come on, you’re not going to get past me’.

“I actually think Wan-Bissaka is the best one-on-one defender for a full-back in the world. I don’t think anyone would get the better of him.”

Everton have to use Wan-Bissaka in Branthwaite deal

Another aspect of this signing that the Toffees can’t ignore is the interest emanating from Old Trafford in defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

HITC have reported that the Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the English defender and Everton have to be smart about this.

Whilst those at Goodison Park are understood to want around £70 million for the defender, Dyche’s side have to think about how they can benefit from the situation.

If United offered £50 million plus Wan-Bissaka in the deal, it may not be as much as the Merseyside club wanted but it would be a smart deal.

Everton’s right-back options in Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman had their fair share of injury problems last season and Wan-Bissaka, who has been injured for just four months of football during his five-year spell at Old Trafford, could be a sensible solution to the injury issues.

Getting £50 million for Branthwaite plus a starting right-back option would be a superb bit of business from Everton, if they can pull it off.
