It is being reported today that Liverpool are in the running to sign Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas. The Spanish legend, who has spent two seasons with the Portuguese side, is set to leave when his contract expires this summer. The veteran has therefore been linked with a move to Anfield. Spanish publication as is reporting that Liverpool are the front-runners for the player.

But Liverpool would be the wrong move for the Spanish legend, who captained his nation to two World Cup wins and a European Championship triumph. He should certainly head to the city, but Everton would be the best place to continue his illustrious career.

Liverpool currently have two top-class keepers already in Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius. Many Everton fans would say they do not have any. Joel Robles is too error-prone whilst Maarten Stekelenburg’s qualities have always been overhyped.

Everton are in need of a top quality goalkeeper if they are to challenge for the Champions League places under Ronald Koeman. Sunderland youngster Jordan Pickford is being linked and would be a great signing, but Casillas has the experience as well as the ability to make a massive impact at Goodison Park.

Everton should be looking to rival their neighbours and bring in a bargain they desperately need.
