According to Guillem Balague’s comments on BBC Radio 5 Live, Everton turned down the chance to sign Saul Niguez, and that must be seen as an error now.

Everton could have signed Saul at the age of 18, but they decided against making a move.

The Toffees felt that they had better options than Saul at the time, and passed up their chance to sign the midfielder.

And that has to be seen as a major error now, given that Saul is now one of the most exceptional young midfielders in world football.

Saul has gone on to become a star for Atletico Madrid and Spain, and would have been Everton’s stand out talent if he had developed in the same way at Goodison Park as he has with Atleti.

Everton’s chances of landing Saul have now surely ended, as he is just too high profile a player for them to land.

And they must look back on the decision to reject the 23-year-old with great regret now.
