Everton owner Farhad Moshiri may be regretting not signing Kalidou Koulibaly when he had the chance now.

Everton were linked with Napoli’s Koulibaly in 2016, but the Toffees stepped away from the deal after being told how much the Italian side wanted.

Moshiri admitted to TalkSPORT that Everton could have bought Koulibaly for £60 million, but he felt that asking price was ‘ridiculous’.

However, since that time, Koulibaly has started to establish himself as one of the finest central defenders in Europe.

The Senegalese international’s combination of power and pace makes him a hard obstacle to get past.

And Everton may be wishing they’d bought him two years ago, as he would unquestionably have improved their defence.

Everton may also have been able to make a significant profit on the defender now.

Koulibaly’s brilliant performances have not gone unnoticed, with Manchester United thought to be taking a look.

The London Evening Standard suggests that United will now have to pay £100 million for the defender, and Everton must look back with regret over not pushing harder to do a deal when they had an opportunity.
