Everton should look to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, for a solution to their defensive issues.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
The Toffees have one of the most senior back-lines in the Premier League, and injecting some youth, along with quality into the defence must be one of Ronald Koeman’s chief priorities this summer.
And the Dutchman must do everything he can to bring Spurs centre-back Kevin Wimmer to Goodison Park.
The 24-year-old Austrian is a classy operator, but has seen his playing time limited at Tottenham.
And with Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier all ahead of him in the pecking order, he may have to seriously consider leaving White Hart Lane this summer.
The left-footed Wimmer would be the ideal central defensive partner for Ashley Williams.
With the serious injury sustained by Semaus Coleman, Mason Holgate could very well be shifted out to right-back to cover for the Republic of Ireland international, so the addition of another centre-back will be an absolute must for the Blues.
Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer
And despite the Spurs man’s tender years, he would still bring a wealth of experience to the Everton side.
He is also comfortable with the ball at his feet, and an accomplished passer – two attributes that are necessities when playing for a Ronald Koeman side.
For Everton to progress next season, and make a genuine push for the Champions League spots, they will need to finally replace what they lost when John Stones left the club for Manchester City last year.
And Wimmer could be just the man for the job.
