Everton are said to be keen on Jack Wilshere, as they think he could help them in their push for a top six spot.

According to the Daily Mirror, Everton duo Marcel Brands and Marco Silva have decided that signing Jack Wilshere could help them in their chase for a top six place, but he should be avoided.

Everton reportedly want Wilshere and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in their line-up next campaign, and while the latter would be an excellent signing, the former shouldn’t be snapped up.

Wilshere may be one of the better value-for-money signings available this summer, but it is hard to see how his arrival would help Everton in their search for a top six squad.

There is a reason why none of Arsenal’s title rivals have shown an interest in Wilshere, and that is because he hasn’t offered enough in recent seasons.

Wilshere scored one goal and claimed three assists in the Premier League last term, and he failed to hit the back of the net in the previous season, when he was out on loan at Bournemouth.

If Loftus-Cheek was to arrive it would also be hard to see exactly where Wilshere would fit at Everton.

The 26-year-old doesn’t look to be as good an attacking influence as Loftus-Cheek, so he would be behind the Chelsea youngster in the pecking order, and the Toffees have a stack of other options in central midfield.

Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin both offer more than Wilshere in a defensive sense, and Brands and Silva should reconsider their idea to sign the Arsenal man, if they think he is the difference between Everton making the top six or not.
