Aaron Lennon was one of Everton’s stand-out performers against West Ham United on Wednesday night as the Toffees strolled to a 4-0 victory at Goodison Park.

The pocket-sized winger seemed to be playing as though his future depended on it, working tirelessly on the right flank in front of youngster Jonjoe Kenny for his side as the Merseyside club earned a 4-0 victory.

Wayne Rooney scored a marvellous hat-trick that included a goal from inside his own half after Joe Hart’s interception gave him the chance to shoot first time from long range, while Ashley Williams also found the back of the net.

Former Leeds speed machine Lennon, 30, encapsulated the Toffees’ hard-working display that ultimately proved to be the backbone of their surprise win, with many expecting a close game between the two struggling sides.

Now, the 21-time England international has just a matter of months remaining on his current deal which expires in June, and Everton are at risk of allowing him to leave on a free transfer with clubs allowed to approach him on a free in January.

Lennon has been on the fringes of Everton’s squad of late, with the likes of Ademola Lookman, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Kevin Mirallas and Nikola Vlasic supplying competition.

Yannick Bolasie has returned to training from his long spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, and he is also expected to sit ahead of Lennon in the pecking order.

But making 10 appearances this season, the former Tottenham ace has shown that he still boasts the kind of quality Everton must look to keep on side.

Lennon joined Everton on a three-year deal back in the summer of 2015, and in March of this year the Daily Star claimed he was earning £50,000 a week.

His display against the Hammers should be enough to convince soon-to-be confirmed manager Sam Allardyce that he deserves a new deal, rather than allowing him to leave Goodison Park for nothing and forcing the club to pay through the nose to find a replacement.
