Everton defender Matthew Pennington does not appear to have a future at the club.
Everton must give serious consideration to letting Matthew Pennington leave the club permanently.
The defender is out on loan at his fifth club, currently with Ipswich Town.
This follows spells with Tranmere Rovers, Coventry City, Walsall, and Leeds United.
Pennington told TWTD: “I’m 24 now and I’ve been out on loan five times, so I guess it’s getting to the time now where I need to find a club, settle down and kick on. It could be here but I don’t know.”
Pennington is realising that right now he can no longer be considered an up and coming prospect.
There is nothing for him at Everton, barring a remarkable turnaround in fortunes.
He is sixth choice at best, behind Yerry Mina, Kurt Zouma, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Phil Jagielka.
Zouma and Jagielka may not be at Everton beyond this year, elevating Pennington in the pecking order, but its more likely the club would look to sign another defender rather than give him a chance.
It just hasn’t happened for Pennington at Everton under successive managers, and the former England youth international needs a fresh start.
A permanent move will help his performances, and give him the fresh start he needs.
It was surprising that he was offered a new three year contract earlier this year, which indicates Everton have some hope he can still develop, but he would have to take a huge leap forward, and sounds like he is not prepared to wait much longer for a chance which may never come.
