Ronald Koeman was sacked as Everton manager recently and the club are still searching for a replacement.
It’s fair to say that Everton’s season has not particularly gone to plan. The club invested heavily in the first-team squad this summer and were tipped for big things by many pundits. Instead, they have struggled at the wrong end of the table and Ronald Koeman has subsequently been sacked.
The appointment of their next full-time manager has to be the right decision, it could be one of their biggest ever appointments. What Everton need is their very own Mauricio Pochettino.
Since the Argentine became Spurs boss he has transformed his side of youthful talent into genuine contenders. He did so after a good run at Southampton and many Everton fans will suggest that Koeman was supposed to be their Poch.
But one massive difference between the two, other than form this campaign, is the affinity with the fans. Koeman never truly won over the crowd at Goodison Park. He never felt permanent, with Barcelona and Holland always seemingly on the agenda.
What Everton need is a brilliant manager who plays a positive brand of football, whilst bringing in the wealth of young talent available to him into the first-team on a regular basis – much like Pochettino has done at Spurs.
Prying Poch away from Spurs? That is simply an impossibility. But if Everton can find their very own version they too may move from the best of the rest into the top stable of the Premier League.
