Ronald Koeman is reportedly ready to spend big to solve Everton’s goal scoring problems.
Romelu Lukaku is the club’s leading goalscorer this season, with 24 Premier League goals to his name. The Belgian is being chased by several heavyweight European clubs, and doubts remain whether he will be at the club next season.
Apart from Lukaku, none of the players have reached the double figures, with the likes of Ross Barkley, Seamus Coleman and Kevin Mirallas having contributed four goals each.
It just goes on to show a) where Everton have really struggled this season, and b) Lukaku’s immense contribution to the side.
Koeman has stressed the importance of signing a goal scoring midfielder who can score between eight to 12 goals in a season.

“We need to analyse what we need to score more goals, because the gap between Rom and the rest in terms of goals is too big,” said Koeman, as quoted by The Mirror.
“We need players who will score between eight and 12 goals. Second top scorer is Kevin and Ross on four goals, we have nobody from midfield scoring 10 goals.
And precisely, that is why Koeman should prioritise signing Atalanta’s #10 – Alejandro Gomez – in the summer.
While there could be an obvious interest in Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, but Everton would not be alone in the race to sign him. If Swansea City get relegated, a host of Premier League club will try to secure his signature, and his price could go up.
In case of Gomez, Everton may not have to face a strong competition from rival clubs. But importantly, they would be getting the right profile of player who can take the club to the next level.
Gomez has scored 14 goals this season and provided nine assists in the Serie A, according to whoscored, this season. The Argentine is very good at taking set pieces, and making key passes. With an excellent dribbling skill and finishing ability, he has been a real asset for the Italian club.
He is a versatile player who can play as a proper central midfielder, on the left where he is capable of fine crosses, and also as a forward.
If Barkley or Lukaku leave the club, Koeman should spend big to lure him away from Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia this summer.
