Everton must consider appointing Wagner as Allardyce replacement this summer

Everton need to find a new manager this summer – and David Wagner fits the bill.

Everton ended their campaign with a 3-1 defeat at West Ham United on Sunday afternoon, in a game which may prove to be Sam Allardyce’s final match in charge of the Toffees.

Goals from Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic had put West Ham 2-0 up, and whilst Oumar Niasse pulled one back for Everton, Lanzini struck again to give the hosts a perfect end to the season.

It was another dour display from Everton, which has become all too common over the last 12 months, and certainly since Allardyce took over from Ronald Koeman back in November.

If Farhad Moshiri – as expected – chooses to sack Allardyce with a year left on his deal, it’s imperative that Everton find a manager to build around, with the likes of Marco Silva, Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao all touted.

However, if Everton choose to look a little close to home, then Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner should certainly be under consideration, as The Mirror claimed he was in 2017.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach not only took Huddersfield up from the Championship last year, but also kept them in the Premier League, both against all odds.

Wagner was seen as a major gamble when he was appointed Huddersfield boss in November 2015, but he has completely revolutionised and galvanised the Terriers, bringing an exciting brand of football to the John Smith’s Stadium whilst uniting with fans throughout.

After such a tumultuous relationship between fans and Allardyce, that’s what Everton nee right now; a manager who can unite all parts of the club once again, whilst bringing attractive football on the pitch.

Wagner has hinted to The Mirror that his Huddersfield future isn’t totally guaranteed, and Everton should be looking to prise him away this summer in an exciting if risky move – and it would also see Wagner fight for Merseyside supremacy against Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, having been Klopp’s best man at his wedding in 2005.
