Ramiro Funes Mori is said to have attracted interest from Italy.
According to Sport Mediaset, Serie A side Lazio have opened talks to sign Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori ahead of the summer transfer window – and the Toffees would be foolish not to cash in.
The 27-year-old was brought to Goodison Park by Roberto Martinez, but it simply has not clicked for the Argentina international on these shores.
The former River Plate defender was viewed as somewhat of a liability early into his Everton career, before he suffered a devastating long-term knee injury while on international duty with Argentina in March 2017.
He has only just returned to first-team football, but with the Merseyside club boasting the likes of Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate, there really is no need for Funes Mori.
Rash in the tackle and questionable when it comes to positioning, Funes Mori’s style of defending simply has not adapted to the English game and if Lazio’s interest is true, then Evertonw would be silly not to send him on his way.
The Daily Star claim the left-footed defender is earning a hefty £40,000 a week at Everton, but he has hardly proven that kind of worth since joining the club.
With two years still to run on that deal, getting him out of the club at the first opportunity will give the Toffees manoeuvrability in the transfer market this summer.
If Lazio make an offer, there should only be one answer in Everton’s minds.
