Ex-Everton target Rachid Ghezzal has struggled at Leicester City.
Everton’s transfer record under Steve Walsh wasn’t exactly stellar, and there’s one deal they’ll be glad he didn’t get over the line.
Walsh was lured from Leicester City in 2016 to boost Everton’s work in the transfer market, but he lost his job just two years later.
Walsh oversaw deals for the likes of Ashley Williams, Yannick Bolasie, Morgan Schneiderlin, Cenk Tosun and Davy Klassen, which all cost Everton big money.
One player who Walsh wanted to sign was winger Rachid Ghezzal, but as reported by Le 10 Sport, he turned down a move to Goodison Park in favour of joining Monaco.
His Lyon deal ended meaning he was a free agent, and he chose Monaco over Everton before eventually heading to the Premier League last summer with Leicester City.
The Algerian was signed to replace Riyad Mahrez, but has endured a dismal first season in the Premier League, registering one goal – a tap in against Liverpool – and no assists in the league.
Ghezzal has been hooked at half time on numerous occasions this season, and Leicester fans have recently lost their patience with the wide man after his dreadful showing against Crystal Palace.
It’s clear that Everton dodged something of a bullet with Ghezzal, even on a free transfer, and as he struggles for a starting role at Leicester, the Toffees will be glad that he rejected them almost two years ago.
