Everton surely cannot allow Jonjoe Kenny’s contract at Goodison Park to run down much further.
With Everton’s summer transfer business and lack of urgency when it has come to appointing a new manager clearly proving that the Toffees are looking to the future and how they become heavyweights in the Premier League in the long-term, it would be a surprise if they allowed the contract of one of their brightest prospects to run into its final 18 months.
That is however, what may well happen if Everton do not act quickly and look to extend Jonjoe Kenny’s contract in the near future.
Kenny has looked bright when given a chance in the first-team, putting in a particularly impressive display when Watford visited Merseyside in the final game before the international break which saw David Unsworth’s only win to date in caretaker charge of the Toffees.
Having spent more than a decade on the club’s books, Kenny is the kind of player who the next permanent manager should be looking to rely upon in the next few years as he develops and potentially establishes himself as the first choice right-back in the squad.
There seems no reason why Kenny’s deal needs to be urgent, but Everton should still make a statement by offering the 20-year-old a new, long-term deal as quickly as possible to ensure that there will be no chance that there will be any questions about his future further down the line.
