The Belgian striker has been a success working for Big Sam before.
Sam Allardyce
It looks as though Sam Allardyce will be getting the Everton job, after weeks of deliberation over who should replace Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park. The former England and Crystal Palace manager had originally been considered for the role but a deal never came to pass. With Everton running out of options, it seems Big Sam has become their fall-back guy.
That does not mean he won’t be a success. Allardyce has had plenty of Premier League experience and will now be charged with bringing Everton away from the drop-zone – something he has successfully done in the past with the likes of Sunderland Blackburn Rovers and Crystal Palace.
Christian Benteke of Crystal Palace wins a header
At the latter, one of the main reasons for survival was Belgian striker Christian Benteke. He was excellent under Allardyce’s playing style and it will not be a surprise that the Belgian is now being linked with a move to Goodison Park in January.
Everton failed to replace their star striker Romelu Lukaku this summer. That failure has clearly cost them, with Wayne Rooney no longer capable of leading a line alone and Dominic Calvert-Lewin not yet ready.
Wayne Rooney of Everton warms up
Benteke therefore would be an excellent addition to the Everton team. He could lead the line for the Toffees and would surely enjoy the service he might receive.
In Gylfi Sigurdsson, Leighton Baines and Rooney the Merseyside club have some of the best deliverers of a ball in the top-flight.
With Benteke always willing and waiting for a chance to head goalward, it could prove to be a match made in heaven.
