Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is set for a £30million move to Everton, according to Sky Sports.
The 23-year-old excelled as he earned the starting spot for his boyhood club last season, but he could not save them from relegation under David Moyes and will move on this summer.
In a busy week for Pickford, he will also play for England on Friday as they kick off their U21 European Championship campaign against Sweden.
But the outstanding keeper can aim for higher than that as this switch to Everton should provide a platform to establish himself as the senior team’s first choice with Gareth Southgate.
Joe Hart has come in for criticism after some shaky performances for England, while his future is unclear after returning to Manchester City following a loan in Serie A with Torino.
Rather than look to Hart, Everton are about to pay a hefty fee for Pickford, who, unlike rivals Tom Heaton, Jack Butland and Fraser Forster, will play European football in the coming campaign.
Younger than those alternatives, too, Pickford has every chance to become Southgate’s number 1 for years to come.
