Everton defenders Lucas Digne and Morgan Schneiderlin were selected to start by Marco Silva at the weekend.

Morgan Schneiderlin has told Everton’s official website that he has been impressed by both Lucas Digne and Kurt Zouma since they arrived this season.

Digne and Zouma were both included in Everton’s starting line-up for their match against Huddersfield Town last weekend, and the pair caught the eye.

The new Toffees defenders both put in solid performances, even though Marco Silva’s side were not able to pick up a victory.

And Schneiderlin, who is on a £120,000-a-week contract at Goodison Park (Telegraph), claims that he has been very impressed by the new pair.

“They are two very good players, we know that,” Schneiderlin said.

“Two games in a matter of days is not easy but they both produced very good performances.

“We need that for the rest of the season.

“They are settling well and add depth to the squad. They are very nice guys and good players, which makes it easy. They speak good English, too.”

Zouma appears to have a golden opportunity to stake his claim for a starting spot in Everton’s team right now, as Silva is so short of centre-back options.

Both Phil Jagielka and Yerry Mina are out injured, although the pair could be back fit again after the international break.

Digne, meanwhile, is looking to take the left-back slot off Leighton Baines at Everton.

Baines has been Everton’s first choice on the left hand side of their defence for years, but the experienced full-back now faces real competition for a place in the Toffees’ team.
