The midfielder was linked with a loan move away from Everton during the summer window.

James McCarthy has insisted that he is happy at Everton despite the circumstances surrounding his most recent Premier League appearance for the Toffees, The Irish Sun reports.

The midfielder has not played for Ronald Koeman’s men since August, and his last league game saw him taken off after just 38 minutes against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

The Irish Sun reports that he was considering a loan move away from Goodison Park during the final days of the window, but injury was one of the reasons why he failed to negotiate a temporary exit from Everton.

But after playing his first game in well over a month, as the Republic of Ireland beat Georgia in their World Cup qualifier, McCarthy has insisted that there is no bad blood between himself and Koeman following the apparent rocky start.

He said, as reported by The Irish Sun: “It happens, doesn’t it?

“We’ll get on with it – and there’s no need to go back over other stuff.

“I’m back fit now and the most important thing is getting games.

“Everything is fine at Everton – it’s good to have a bit of competition in your side.”

With McCarthy playing the full game for Martin O’Neill’s men, it is clear that he is ready to return into contention for a place in the Toffees’ squad for their upcoming fixture with Manchester City, provided that he makes it through Ireland’s clash with Moldova unscathed.

And while McCarthy is adamant that nothing is wrong at Everton currently, it seems likely that that opinion could change in the coming months if the early substitution against the Baggies was a sign of things to come and Koeman is at all unconvinced about using him in future.
