England’s run to the final of Euro 2020 captured the nation – but Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin may have been wishing for a slightly bigger role.

The Three Lions were beaten in Sunday’s final on penalties, losing to Italy at Wembley Stadium despite taking an early lead through Luke Shaw.

Gareth Southgate’s men came so close to glory, and must now try and build towards the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

One player who will desperate to show Southgate what he can do is Calvert-Lewin, who played a very minimal role for England this summer.

Calvert-Lewin only made two appearances for England at Euro 2020, totalling just 17 minutes in what turned out to be something of a frustrating summer.

Of course, just being a part of the England journey to the final will have been an amazing experience, but Calvert-Lewin will be desperate to show that he is better than playing just 17 minutes.

He was even left out completely against Germany, and this could actually boost Everton heading into the new season.

Calvert-Lewin didn’t take on a huge workload this summer and didn’t pick up any injuries, so he should be coming back for the new season fresh and ready to go.

Calvert-Lewin finds himself in a touch position with England, as the chances of him surpassing Harry Kane in the pecking order are slim at best.

He can though show that he should be playing more regular minutes for England, and his bit-part summer means Everton may find their striker coming back to Premier League action more dangerous than ever.
