Everton are keen on Matheus Nunes and could make their move to sign the Sporting midfielder if a takeover is pushed through.

The Toffees need major reinforcements this summer after a nervous flirtation with relegation this past season.

The problem for Everton is that their budget isn’t too big amid Financial Fair Play fears.

The Farhad Moshiri era will go down as one where Everton spent a lot of money and ended up getting worse.

Moshiri could soon sell up, and Peter Kenyon is leading a consortium that now has exclusivity over a deal to buy Everton according to The Telegraph.

That would give Everton a greater transfer budget and the room to bring in new faces.

One prominent name is already being linked in Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes.

Foot Mercato reported earlier this week that Everton have made an approach towards Nunes over a summer move.

Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also thought to be keen but Everton are again being linked today.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo now claim that Everton are ready to invest €50million (£42.5million) in Nunes if their takeover goes through.

Sporting want €60million (£51million) for Nunes but would be willing to negotiate with Everton.

Nunes, 23, has grown into a quality box-to-box midfielder since joining Sporting from Estoril in 2019.

The Brazil-born midfielder has now decided to play for Portugal and already has eight caps for his new country.

Nunes looks primed for stardom but is a move to Everton actually realistic?

Takeovers tend to take a while to go through and it may be difficult for Everton to have new owners and push through such a huge deal this summer.

Nunes may be a name to keep an eye on going forward, but it’s very hard to see him joining Everton in the coming months – and other clubs will certainly be keen.
