Everton finished in a disappointing 11th place in last season’s Premier League.
Ronald Koeman has revealed to the Daily Mirror that Everton owners Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri have already told him that he must deliver winning football while deploying an aesthetically pleasing brand of football at Goodison Park.
Koeman was made Everton manager last week, after weeks of speculation over his future.
The Toffees made Koeman their first choice replacement for Roberto Martinez soon after the Spanish boss was sacked, but it took a while to get a deal over the line.
Koeman’s arrival at Everton has created great excitement around the Merseyside club, and expectations levels have been raised.
The Dutch boss would not confirm whether he was aiming to make the top four during his first season at the helm, but he did explain that he had been given some demanding targets from both Moshiri and Kenwright.
“I don’t like to mention the Champions League,” said Koeman. “There will be changes in the team but the ambition is a lot higher – from the chairman [Bill Kenwright] and Farhad Moshiri.
“They like to win and like to see good football. And they want to see the fans proud of the team.”
Everton finished last season in 11th place in the Premier League, but they are expected to push on this time around.
Koeman has been handed a transfer budget of over £100 million to ensure that he has the quality required to push them up the Premier League standings.
Koeman’s guided Southampton into seventh and sixth placed finishes during his two season at St. Mary’s.
