Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly hesitant to join Everton as the Toffees look to appoint the Argentine coach as their first choice option following the sacking of Frank Lampard this Monday.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Leeds United manager has ‘serious reservations’ about taking the Everton job, with Bielsa having concerns over the role as the Merseyside club now look set to miss out on 67-year-old South American.

As per the report, Sam Allardyce is also under consideration for the job as the Everton board are eager to appoint a manager who can guide the 20th-place Premier League side away from the relegation zone, with Bielsa seemingly not willing to take the job.

The Rosario-born coach led Leeds from the Championship back to the Premier League with the Whites playing some of the most explosive and entertaining football in their first year back in the English top-flight. However, Bielsa might not be the ideal man for Everton’s relegation mission.

Indeed, turning to Allardyce wouldn’t be the worst option for Everton given the former England manager’s impressive record already at Goodison Park, with Sean Dyche another coach who could be perfect for what the Toffees need this January.

Whilst Bielsa would have been an ideal project manager for Everton, the Merseyside club have shown that they need to appoint a coach who will get the job done and get the points needed to stave off relegation, and the Argentine himself seems to know this as well.

Bielsa has shown that he can do it in England and in the Premier League with his incredible work with Leeds. However, the same likely won’t be said should the veteran manager take charge of Everton, a club who many agree are one of the worst-run in the top-flight.

As a result, Bielsa would be wise to turn down the Everton job as there is a good chance that the Toffees board will not bow down to the Argentine’s requests, something that has seemingly cost many managers their jobs at Goodison Park over the years.
