Everton recorded a deserved win over Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Everton boss Marco Silva has stated that he wished Arsenal manager Unai Emery ‘good luck’ for the season following their heated exchange during their Premier League encounter on Sunday afternoon.
The Toffees won the match 1-0 at Goodison Park and Silva insisted that the mini-confrontation between the two in the second half was just the emotions of football.
Centre-back Phil Jagielka, who came into the starting XI as a late replacement for the ill Michael Keane, scored what ended up being the only goal of the game.
Nonetheless, after the match, Silva told Sky Sports Premier League (07/04/2019 at 4:15 pm), that he offered nothing but good thoughts to the opposition manager after their heated exchange.
“We had that moment during the game,” Silva told Sky Sports PL. “Football is emotional in that moment. He wants the best for his team, I want the best for my team.
“At the end of the match, he gave me congratulations. I say to him ‘the best of luck in the rest of the matches’.”
The 1-0 win for Everton perhaps flatters the North London club because they could have easily conceded a few more goals if the home team were more clinical in front of goal.
The Gunners, who are yet to keep a clean sheet away from home this season, were defensively all over the shop as they couldn’t cope with Everton’s constant attacks.
Nonetheless, the result at the weekend moved Silva’s side into ninth place in the Premier League table and within touching distance of seventh spot.
After an indifferent campaign, both in the Premier League and in the cup competitions, Everton are now looking on the up and they will be looking for their fourth win on the bounce when they take on already-relegated Fulham in their next encounter.
