Marco Silva’s Everton suffered a defeat at the hands of Watford on Saturday afternoon.
Everton boss Marco Silva has claimed that ’80 to 90 per cent of the people don’t really know the truth’ following his return to Watford over the weekend.
As reported by Sky Sports, Silva, who was sacked by the Hornets last season, was accused of trying to engineer a move to Goodison Park before his sacking.
Whilst he didn’t make a direct move to Merseyside, he did replace Sam Allardyce in the summer and upon his return to his former club, he was given a fiery reception by the home crowd.
As mentioned in the above report, striker Troy Deeney had some strong words for Silva and a song dubbed ‘The Snake’ was played prior to the match.
As a result, that promoted the Portuguese coach to hit back at those previous reports and claim that not many people know the truth regarding his departure.
“It was clear the strategy during the week and for sure it was not a players’ strategy or a manager’s strategy,” Silva said, as quoted by Sky Sports.“It was something more than that. To be honest with you, my opinion is that it was a good strategy when you create something for everyone to all go in one way.
“80 to 90 per cent of the people don’t really know the truth – what I am telling you is that I was really welcomed by the people who know me and my work at this club – all of them. To know more or less the truth is what is important to me.”
In the game in itself, Siva suffered a defeat with substitute Andre Gray netting the only goal of the game, which only piles more pressure on the under-fire boss.
The Toffees are still sitting in the Premier League’s top 10, but if their results continue the way they are then they will soon drop down into the bottom half of the table.
Silva will now be preparing his team for a trip to Wales on Tuesday night where they will take on relegation-threatened Cardiff City.
