According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has told Everton to make Rafael Benitez their new boss.

What’s the story?

Everton have been searching for a new boss since Carlo Ancelotti’s exit to Real Madrid earlier this month, with a host of names suggested.

Benitez is now expected to be appointed today despite fans staging a backlash against the idea of the former Liverpool man coming in.

It’s now claimed that Farhad Moshiri and Alisher Usmanov have both received glowing reports on Benitez from Chelsea owner Abramovich.

The Russian allegedly considers Benitez to be one of the best managers he has ever employed at Chelsea, and has now told Everton to make their move.

Benitez faces similar situation at Everton to Chelsea

When Benitez became Chelsea boss in 2012, fans were far from happy with his appointment – much like Everton fans are now.

In the end, Benitez did win over sections of the Chelsea fanbase, and won the Europa League for the Blues with a final win over Benfica.

That’s the task facing Benitez once again. Just like at Chelsea, it’s his history at Liverpool causing problems with fans.

The Spaniard may need to win silverware again in order to get Everton fans on his side, but Benitez will absolutely back himself to get it done.
