Everton striker Oumar Niasse has been banned for two games for simulation.
Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth has told BBC Sport that he is shocked by Oumar Niasse’s two-game suspension for simulation.
The 27-year-old became the first Premier League player to be charged for the “successful deception of a match official” after diving to win Everton a penalty in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
Unsworth feels that the Senegalese striker has been harshly treated and warned the Football Association that they are setting a “dangerous precedent”.
“I think these people [the FA] will be very busy,” Unsworth is quoted by BBC Sport as saying.
“It’s a dangerous precedent that could be set if decisions are given against you which are debatable.”
“I think anywhere on the field it’s a foul. He [Niasse] was shocked and I was shocked [by the charge].”
Niasse earned Everton a spot kick under the challenge of Palace defender Scott Dann and, although there was contact, the Toffees forward did appear to throw himself to ground very easily.
The FA’s Independent Regulatory Commission, which includes former players, decides retrospectively on acts of simulation and has cleared Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Watford’s Richarlison this season.
Niasse, who has six goals in nine appearances this season, will miss Everton’s upcoming games against Southampton and West Ham United, leaving Unsworth short of his top goalscorer.
