Everton winger Yannick Bolasie defended Ademola Lookman and called him a ‘top, top player’ on his Instagram story after his horror penalty during Fulham’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham last night.

West Ham thought they had won the London derby in stoppage-time when Tomas Soucek drove home, but the away side were awarded a penalty deep into added time.

Ex-Everton man Lookman stepped up to take the responsibility, but amazingly enough, he attempted a Panenka-style penalty which barley reached the goalkeeper.

Understandably, many were in disbelief at what they had just witnessed, even those in Claret & Blue, as Lookman’s attempt to try the extraordinary ended up being a nightmare for the youngster.

Nonetheless, Bolasie, who would have shared a dressing room with the attacking speedster at Goodison Park, wrote this message on his Instagram story:

‘Top, top player,’ added with a heart emoji. ‘Sometimes we learn the hard way’.

Another one of Lookman’s old teammates, Oumar Niasse, also took to his own Instagram story to back the Fulham man.

He wrote: ‘Just a lesson and you move on’.

It’s quite simple when it comes to attempting the Panenka, you have to get it right or it is going to be nothing but a pure disaster.

In Lookman’s case, not only did he try it, but he attempted the Panenka in what was practically the last kick of the game, and as a result, it cost his team a valuable point.

One thing is for sure, he won’t be trying that again!
