Liverpool talisman Virgil van Dijk is not the greatest centre-back on the planet according to Richarlison, who believes reported Everton target Thiago Silva is still superior despite his advancing years, speaking to Desimpipidos.

The Toffees have been looking to fill a Kurt Zouma-shaped hole in their backline for almost 12 months now.

And with deals for the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Jean-Clair Todibo hitting the buffers, the availability of one of the most gifted and decorated defenders of the 21st century could hardly have been better timed.

PSG sporting director Leonardo confirmed last week that 35-year-old Silva would be leaving the Parc des Princes when his contract expires on July 1.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Everton are now hoping to reunite the former Brazil captain with Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park.

Richarlison is well placed to pass judgement, given that he won the Copa America alongside Silva in 2019.

And, according to the Everton forward, Silva would be the finest centre-back on Merseyside if an eye-catching transfer can be agreed.

“People talk a lot about (van Dijk). Yes, he’s a great defender but I’ve already dribbled past him. He was chosen as one of the top three in the world as he had an excellent season,” Richarlison says.

“But yes, for me there are better defenders – Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Sergio Ramos.”

Silva might have lost a yard of pace or two in recent years but, when it comes to positional sense and the ability to man-mark even the best strikers out of the game, there are few better than a man who lifted his eighth Ligue 1 title recently.
