Tosun is reportedly keen on joining Palace from Everton, with Roy Hodgson’s side making a bid.
Crystal Palace have reportedly made an offer to sign Everton striker Cenk Tosun and a deal seems likely to be concluded – but the Turkish striker’s comments on his failed to move to Selhurst Park in 2017 will surely anger Palace fans.
Turkish outlet Hurriyet have claimed that Palace are keen to sign Tosun, while the player himself is also keen to join Roy Hodgson’s side. Marco Silva is also said to be interested in offloading Tosun, in order to make room for Michy Batshuayi.
Rewind back to the summer of 2017, and Tosun would have been the last person Palace fans wanted their club to sign after the striker’s comments following a failed move from Besiktas to Selhurst Park.
Indeed, Turkey international Tosun was seemingly keen not to move to Palace back in 2017, after the London-based club made an offer for the German-born star in the dying moments of the summer window. He was happy to stay at Besiktas.
“About my transfer to Crystal Palace, I can say that I’m very happy the move failed,” Tosun was quoted as saying by News Shopper, back in 2017. “I get to stay at the club and I am doing very well at the moment in both the league and Champions League.”
Tosun left Besiktas just six months later to join Everton in an enormous £27million move, but he has since struggled on Merseyside – scoring just seven goals in 33 league and cup appearances.
Costing a whopping £3.9million per goal, Tosun has fallen down the pecking order under Silva, with the likes of Dom Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison preferred.
Now, he could be on the verge of moving to Palace despite his comments from back in 2017.
