According to TMW, Sean Dyche’s Everton have made a late move for AS Roma attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, who reportedly fancies a switch to Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United instead.
Everton back in for Leeds United target Nicolo Zaniolo
Italian news outlet TMW are reporting this evening that Everton have made contact with Roma again over signing playmaker Zaniolo in the final hours of January transfer deadline day.
The Merseyside club are also reportedly trying to convince the 23-year-old Italy international – described as “extraordinary” by Roma head coach Jose Mourinho on the club’s YouTube channel in August 2022 – to move to Goodison Park.
First attempt failed
Earlier today, Calciomercato reported that RB Leipzig, Everton, Southampton, Leeds and AC Milan all made proposals to Roma for the 23-year-old, who has also operated as a forward in some matches this season.
The interested clubs all offered a loan deal with the option to buy which would become an obligation based on certain criteria.
Roma do not like that kind of a deal and want to sell Zaniolo right now.
The report added that Zaniolo fancies a move to Leeds and would like to join the West Yorkshire club if they are able to reach an agreement with his club Roma.
However, TMW are now reporting that Everton are back in for Zaniolo and are trying to get a deal done.
There are no credible reports at the moment claiming that Leeds are going to make a new offer for the Italian.
