Everton missed out on signing Porto winger Luis Diaz last month – and he could now be well out of theyr price range after a blistering start to the season.

That’s according to Marca in Colombia, who claim that Porto are now eyeing a ‘stratospheric’ sale for Diaz.

Porto’s record sale is £45million for Eder Militao. Seven other players – Eliaquim Mangala, James Rodriguez, Hulk, Radamel Falcao, Fabio Silva, Andre Silva and Jackson Martinez – all went for more than £30million.

Porto may be eyeing similar cash for Diaz, which may take Everton out of the race.

Everton’s interest in Diaz

Everton were keen to bring Diaz to Goodison Park over the summer. Marcel Brands and Rafael Benitez wanted to add another quality winger to Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.

The proposal was a swap deal involving James Rodriguez. Everton were looking to swap Rodriguez for Diaz, sending the playmaker back to Porto.

However, Fabrizio Romano noted that the deal collapsed before the transfer deadline.

With James now sold to Al-Rayyan in Qatar, that swap idea has been taken off the table once and for all.

Diaz in stunning form

Everton may wish they had got that deal done, even with Gray and Townsend shining.

Diaz has been superb this season, hitting five goals and one assist in six league games for Porto.

That’s why Porto are now bumping up their asking price for Diaz, which was already a problem for Everton.

More and more clubs may start targeting Diaz, with the Colombian emerging as the one that getaway for Everton.
