Everton loanee Henry Onyekuru looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he requires surgery on a knee injury.
Onyekuru could be out for up to six months after suffering the injury while playing for Anderlecht in their 1-0 victory over his former club Eupen on Friday last week, as reported by The Liverpool Echo.
There is a possibility that the attacker, who has scored nine goals in 19 league appearances this season, could miss the rest of the season, and may be ruled out of the World Cup, which he was likely to attend as part of the Nigeria squad.
Onyekuru, who can play as a striker but is most often deployed as a winger, signed for Everton last summer only to be loaned out due to work permit issues.
The 20-year-old is seen as a very exciting prospect and he will hope to get the opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League with Everton in due course, but this represents a significant setback in terms of his progress.
Onyekuru had received some criticism from Anderlecht manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck this season but some of his performances have been rather impressive and he will hope that his injury isn’t as bad as first feared.
