Everton loanee Ellis Simms was rewarded for a strong full Hearts debut with a spot in the SPFL Team of the Week.

The select XI, which is made up of those deemed to have been the standout performers across all four SPFL leagues over the weekend, was named on Tuesday.

Everton loanee makes SPFL Team of the Week

Simms starred for Hearts in their 2-0 win over Motherwell at Tynecastle on Saturday afternoon, scoring the second goal with a simple close range finish and producing a strong overall performance.

Craig Fowler from A View From The Terrace, who selects the SPFL TOTW, described the Toffees loanee’s outing as a ‘thoroughly imposing full debut’.

Simms was named up front alongside Celtic’s Liel Abada, who scored a late winner against Dundee United.

Simms made his second Hearts start later on Tuesday in an Edinburgh Derby against Hibernian.

Both teams had to settle for a point in the end at Easter Road as the game finished 0-0, but it could have been so much more for the visitors had they had some help from the officials.

Simms denied clear penalty vs Hibs

Simms was denied a stonewall penalty in the 22nd minute when he was unceremoniously taken out by Lewis Stevenson when through on goal.

Hearts would see another big penalty claim waved away later in the game, leaving them feeling aggrieved at full time.

Simms played the full 90 minutes but is unlikely to be making any select XIs for his performance this time around.

The 21-year-old received a SofaScore rating of just 6.7 and he was adjudged to have missed two big chances, while he lost possession 15 times and recorded a low passing accuracy of 65%.

Next up for the young striker is an even bigger test against champions Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday and a big performance there would certainly catch the eye of the Everton coaching staff.
