Everton and Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon talent Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who the Anfield side came close to signing last year before the teenager opted for a move to Portugal.

According to O Jogo, both Premier League sides are monitoring the Ghana international following his first six months in Europe, with the 18-year-old signing for Sporting in the summer from Dreams FC, who according to Goal, Liverpool launched a late bid to land Issahaku.

With just six appearances in all competitions, the African wonderkid is enduring a slow start to life in Portugal, with Issahaku appearing twice in the UEFA Champions League against Olympique Marseille and Tottenham as Sporting finished third in the group.

With a release clause of €60m (£52m) according to Footy Ghana, Issahaku isn’t leaving Sporting anytime soon. However, renewed interest from Liverpool and Everton joining the race for the teenager could hint that a move to England is on the cards in the coming years, especially if the winger breaks into the Lisbon first team in 2023.

Indeed, Sporting have high hopes for Issahaku, and with the versatile attacker only just moving to Portugal, the likes of Everton and Liverpool could face a struggle to sign the winger if the youngster develops into a key player for the Primeira Liga giants.

Time is of the essence for Issahaku, and with the forward likely to travel to Ghana for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Merseyside duo might have a good chance of seeing the youngster in action should the Black Stars turn to youth in their fixtures against Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Issahaku is only at the start of his footballing career, and with the youngster only making the jump from Ghana to Portugal this year, it might be quite some time before the likes of Everton and Liverpool even make a move to sign the 18-year-old wonderkid.

After all, Sporting will likely want to develop the attacker in order to sell him off for a big fee in the years to come, and with a £52m release clause already, the Portuguese side know they are in a safe positon with Issahaku, who could develop into a fine talent in the coming seasons.
