Jamie Redknapp has praised Amadou Onana whilst suggesting that top six clubs will already fancy signing the Everton star.

Everton headed off to North London on Saturday evening as they took on Tottenham Hotspur.

Frank Lampard’s men were very good in the first half and could have gone ahead but were made to pay for missing their chances.

Harry Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wrapped it up with a deflected strike.

Lampard will be frustrated with another defeat but there were some promising signs from Everton and especially from midfielder Onana.

Jamie Redknapp has praised Amadou Onana

Onana broke forward from midfield in the first half having pounced on indecision between Cristian Romero and Hojbjerg.

The Belgian couldn’t be caught as he broke towards goal but his left-footed strike just went over the crossbar.

That missed chance proved crucial as Tottenham went on to win but this was a glimpse of what Onana can bring.

The summer signing from Lille is physically imposing at 6ft 5in tall but he can break forward just as well as he can protect the back four.

Onana looks to have huge potential and he has picked up a new fan in pundit Jamie Redknapp.

Redknapp told Sky Sports (15/10, 8:10pm) that  Onana is the Everton signing he is most excited about from the summer, above Conor Coady and James Tarkowski.

Redknapp believes that Onana is still adjusting to life in the Premier League but is showing signs of becoming a ‘really top midfielder’.

The pundit added that he thinks the Premier League’s top six will already have their eyes on Onana, believing that he can play at the very highest level having proven himself to be a leader at just 21.

“The one I think I’m probably most excited by is Onana,” said Redknapp. “I think he’s still adjusting but he shows glimpses of being a really top midfield player.”

“This is no disrespect to Everton but he’s one that I’m sure the top six clubs, they’ll already have him on their radar, he’s got that ability. He’s such a leader,” he added.

That’s particularly interesting as Onana has been on the radar of Everton’s rivals Liverpool.

The Athletic reported that Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle United and West Ham United were all keen on signing Onana before his move to Everton.

Arsenal are seeking competition for Thomas Partey and a move to North London may make more sense than allowing the Belgian to join Liverpool.

The hope is that Onana can have a bright and long-lasting future with Everton, but his talent is enormous and interest down the line is just inevitable.
