The Toffees midfielder scored in the AFCON quarter-final after being put through by the Reds attacker.

A number of Everton and Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on two of their players combining to put Senegal into the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations at the expense of Benin.
In the 69th minute of the quarter-final in Cairo, Toffees midfielder Idrissa Gueye exchanged passes with Reds attacker Sadio Mane to slice through the Squirrels’ defence and lash into the far corner of Saturnin Allagbe’s net.
The goal proved decisive as Aliou Cisse’s side ran out 1-0 winners over Benin – Mane having had two goals disallowed for offside after VAR checks – and booked a date with either Madagascar or Tunisia in the semi-finals on Sunday in the Egyptian capital.
Here is what some fans of the Merseyside rivals said on the social media platform about their players’ contributions to their nation’s victory:
The triumph over Benin puts Senegal two wins away from claiming their first ever Africa Cup of Nations title, their previous best showing coming in 2002 when they finished runners-up, just months before making it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
