According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Everton have enquired about the possibility of signing Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer, but surely the Toffees should be aiming higher than the Spaniard.

The report from Sport claims that the 24-year-old will cost Everton £30 million, and that is a serious amount of cash for someone with such a poor goalscoring record.

Alcacer joined Barcelona from Valencia in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £25.5 million, but he has really failed to establish himself at the Camp Nou, with just 15 goals in 50 appearances to his name for the Catalan giants.

In fact, his career goalscoring record is just as bad, with 62 goals scored in 199 appearances.

Marco Silva desperately needs more fire-power in his attacking department at Goodison Park this summer, if he is to guide Everton back into contention for the European places.

And there must be questions asked as to whether Alcacer is the man they need.

The other issue regarding bringing the Spaniard to England is his diminutive stature. Moving from La Liga to the Premier League is a huge jump up in both intensity and quality, and considering his struggles with Barca, it is highly likely that he would not have much more luck with Everton.

For £30 million, the Merseyside outfit can surely get a lot more for their money, and they should avoid a move for Alcacer at all costs.
