Brighton and Hove Albion are set for a club-record signing, with Genk winger Leandro Trossard on the verge of a move to the Amex Stadium.

Trossard, 24, has been undergoing a medical today ahead of signing a five-year deal with the Seagulls, costing around £18million according to The Argus.

The Belgian wide man enjoyed a superb season, racking up 22 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, attracting major interest in the process.

Brighton have fought off massive competition for Trossard’s signature, and the signing comes after The Express claimed Everton expected to sign him just last month.

It seems that Everton cooled their alleged interest in signing Trossard, but that doesn’t mean that Marcel Brands and co should ignore him now.

Jumping from Belgium straight into an Everton side hoping to challenge for the top six would have been bold, and Brands can now see whether he shines in the Premier League.

Yes, Trossard would cost more than £18million if he impresses, but Everton would be a step up for the winger in the future, and Brands should subsequently keep watching his performances to see whether he’s suitable for a move in the future.

With clubs no doubt interested in Richarlison, and Ademola Lookman’s long-term future unclear, Trossard may well be a target better off being looked at in the next 12 to 18 months.

There’s no room for him at Everton right now, but having seemingly been impressed with him in Belgium, the Toffees should still keep tabs on the winger now he’s hit the Premier League.
