Everton have been heavily linked with Jean-Philippe Gbamin as a replacement for Idrissa Gueye but he might not necessarily start the season in midfield.

Gbamin, who is yet to decide between the two Premier League sides, is touted as Idrissa Gueye’s replacement at Goodison Park after the Senegalese midfielder completed his move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week.
Gueye was an integral part of the Toffees squad since he joined them from Aston Villa a few years ago and losing him will undoubtedly be a massive blow. Gbamin is an ideal replacement for the newly announced PSG man but he could well find himself playing a different role come the start of the season.
A hugely versatile player, Gbamin is capable of playing in the centre of the park as well as in central defence. This could potentially open up a world of options for Everton boss Marco Silva who is in a spot of bother with respect to his centre-backs.

Kurt Zouma’s future is still up in the air, while club legend Phil Jagielka moved to Sheffield United. Yerry Mina’s injury problems make him unreliable, which leaves the Toffees with inexperienced options next to Michael Keane who is seemingly guaranteed a starting role.
The addition of Fabian Delph from Manchester City and the permanent signing of Andre Gomes from Barcelona completes Everton’s midfield, meaning Gbamin could primarily be used at centre-back.
