The Toffees stalwart, with 430 club games under his belt, is optimistic about Silva’s tenure but nonetheless a little anxious.

Everton legend Leon Osman has warned Marco Silva that he needs to improve results quickly this month and urged the club to invest in one particular position.

The Toffees have won just one of their last five Premier League games, which has seen them slip to 10th in the table.

Everton’s next five league fixtures are all against sides either around them or below them in the table, Wolves being the highest-placed at present in eighth position.

Although three of these games – Southampton, Bournemouth and Watford – are away from home, there is certainly scope for the Toffees to aim for positive results in all five.

Osman is optimistic about the club’s direction under Silva, but he nonetheless thinks that results must not keep slipping over the coming weeks.

In addition, the 37-year-old expressed concern over the Portuguese’s lowly tally of 11 points from 16 matches at Watford before his departure.

“I still think he’s improving the Everton side, the points may be similar to last season but the style of football is much different,” the 430-appearance stalwart told Sky Sports News.

“However, that run of form is certainly a concern and seeing how Silva did in the second half of his time at Watford again just is a concern.

“It’s a really important January now for Silva so he needs to improve results quickly and hopefully recruit well – Everton are desperate for a striker to make the difference in big games.”

Ahead of a return to Premier League action, which isn’t until January 13, Everton have a FA Cup third-round meeting against Lincoln City at Goodison Park this Saturday.
