Former Leeds United striker Michael Bridges believes the club have missed a trick by missing out on Everton boss Sean Dyche.
The Whites chose to sack Jesse Marsch last week after a torrid run of form.
A 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest proved to be the end for Marsch and he was relieved of his duties last Monday.
Leeds of course wanted to secure a swift replacement for Marsch but that just hasn’t happened.
Leeds wanted Carlos Corberan, Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot but they decided to stay with West Bromwich Albion, Rayo Vallecano and Feyenoord respectively.
The Whites then explored a deal for Dutch boss Alfred Schreuder following his departure from Ajax.
That move was scrapped though and it’s unclear just where Leeds go from here in their managerial search.
Michael Bridges thinks Sean Dyche could have helped Leeds United
Leeds maybe felt a little panicked because Wolves and Everton – two clubs who have secured new managers in recent times – have picked up results.
Julen Lopetegui has turned Wolves around whilst Sean Dyche won his first game as Everton boss just two days before Marsch’s exit.
Former Leeds striker Michael Bridges has now told GegenPod that he thinks Dyche could have been the man for Leeds.
Bridges feels Leeds maybe missed a trick by not sacking Marsch earlier and bringing in Dyche before Everton could secure him.
Bridges believes that Dyche could have given Leeds a real lift with his brand of management, even if his style of play isn’t always pretty.
“I’m still in the wilderness here, I’m hoping the right decision comes from this and they get the right man, but I think Leeds United missed a trick in missing out on Sean Dyche, just to give them some lift and some boost.”
“Not that I enjoy watching his tactics, mind! I’ve said that about Burnley when he was there, I told you I wouldn’t watch them, but it’s a massive few weeks coming up,” he added.
Everton may have lost to Liverpool on Monday night but fans are still pretty optimistic about the Dyche era.
The Toffees played with real passion against Arsenal and did enough to beat the Premier League leaders.
Dyche would have been a major change for Leeds though after Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa, and it’s unlikely that he would have been on the Leeds radar.
Still, Dyche will have a real chance of guiding Everton to survival – possibly to the detriment of Leeds.
