Everton reportedly launched a proposal to Serie A side Napoli to sign Kalidou Koulibaly and Victor Osimhen, which were turned down by the Italian club.
According to Il Mattino, the Toffees are keen on the African duo, with Everton taking steps this month to bring in the Napoli superstars. However, their proposal was rejected by the club, with attentions now turned to a move in the summer.
As per the report, Luciano Spalletti wants to keep hold of the ‘sensational’ Serie A duo as Napoli remain in the race to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Everton are set to announce the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager in the coming days, with the Merseyside club also close to signing Donny van de Beek from Manchester United on a short-term loan deal.
The Toffees have been quiet this January window, with the sacking of Rafa Benitez and subsequent managerial search taking up most of the headlines and space in the Everton rumour mill.
Indeed, new signings would be welcome at Goodison Park this deadline day. However, two players who won’t be joining Everton in the coming hours are Koulibaly and Osimhen.
Koulibaly and Osimhen could be eyed by Everton in the summer

Whilst Koulibaly and Osimhen won’t be joining Everton anytime this January, there is a good chance that the Toffees make a new attempt to sign the duo in the summer, especially if Lampard can get the club back on their feet.
The English manager has the potential to take the Toffees flying up the Premier League table. And given his incredible reputation in the world of football, Koulibaly and Osimhen could be tempted to join Everton if they are in a healthier position under Lampard in the summer.
